FB 83 (POSSIBLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

Okay, so you’re looking for something a bit different, away from the usual warm water clichés. The FB 83, or "Possibly" as we affectionately call it, is definitely one of our standout Northumberland wrecks. Sitting at 39 meters, it’s a proper dive, no messing about. What we love about this former Mersey Docks & Harbour Board barge is its sheer bulk and how it’s settled on the seabed. You descend onto this massive structure, and immediately the light changes, the North Sea green giving way to the wreck’s shadows. This isn't about delicate coral, it’s about sturdy metal, thick with dead man's fingers and anemones. You’ll find plenty of inquisitive wrasse poking around, and the occasional ling or conger eel peering out from a dark corner. We always suggest taking a good torch, not just for penetration into the more sheltered areas, but to really bring out the colours on the invertebrate growth. It's a dive that rewards careful exploration, suited to those who appreciate the history under the waves and the hardy marine life that thrives in these cooler waters. The currents can be a factor, so picking your slack water window is crucial for a relaxed dive.
