FB 98 (PROBABLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

There's something uniquely satisfying about diving a wreck with a bit of mystery, and the FB 98 (Probably) delivers just that. We love a good story behind a dive site, and the "dumped by the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board" adds a certain charm to this old barge. Dropping onto the deck at 39 metres, you immediately feel the weight of its history. It’s not a grand ocean liner, but the scattered holds and the way the steel is slowly collapsing inwards create a fantastic playground for exploration. Our favourite part is the way the North Sea has utterly reclaimed it. Ling and cod are often found lurking in the shadows, their eyes following you as you fin past. Look closely, and you'll spot nudibranchs, often the vibrant yellow sea lemon, clinging to the rust-coloured metalwork. It’s an ideal dive for those who appreciate the quiet solitude of a deeper wreck, where the current is often manageable, allowing for a good amount of time to simply drift and observe. Just remember, it’s a site that rewards patience and a good torch to really pick out the details.
