Ferocious - Northumberland & Northeast
The **Ferocious** is a site that truly earns its name, not from the dive itself – it's actually quite mellow – but from the sheer power of the sea that claimed her. You're diving on the remains of a destroyer, the sheer scale of the twisted metal is incredible, especially when you consider it’s all in around 5 meters of water. We’ve found ourselves really getting lost in the wreck here, tracing the outline of the stern and bow, imagining the deck layout from the jumbled plates. What we love most about Ferocious is how accessible such a significant piece of history is. It's an ideal spot for newer wreck divers or even just a long, leisurely rummage for experienced hands. The wreck is well broken up, but you can still make out her general form, and it's become a fantastic artificial reef. Look closely amongst the torn metal and you’ll spot wrasse darting between the plates, crabs scuttling in crevices, and anemones clinging to every surface. It feels like a living museum, constantly changing with the tides and the marine life that calls it home. We’d suggest going on a calm day with good light; the ambient illumination makes exploring the nooks and crannies much easier and really brings out the colours of the encrusting life.
