FLYING DART - Northumberland & Northeast

The Flying Dart, for us, is a brilliant wreck. It’s not just a pile of twisted metal; you can still make out the tug’s shape, sitting upright at 27 metres. Dropping down, the visibility in the North Sea can be a bit hit or miss, but when it’s good, the structure emerges from the green gloom, often shrouded in a swirling cloud of coalfish. These fish are bold, bumping right into your dome port if you stay still for a moment. We love exploring the bow, where the anchor chain still drapes, encrusted with dead man's fingers. The stern is more broken up, but it's where we often find lobsters tucked into crevices. This site suits divers who appreciate history and the atmosphere of a deep, dark wreck. It’s a proper dive, one where you need to manage your gas and your bottom time carefully, but the reward is a tangible connection to the past. Go at slack water, obviously, or you’ll be fighting a serious push. The currents here can be no joke.
