GALILEAN - Northumberland & Northeast

The Galilean is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. Sitting upright in a shallow 3 metres, it’s a brilliant introduction to wreck diving, particularly for newer divers or those looking for a relaxed bimble. We love that it’s still relatively intact, the superstructure rising a good metre off the seabed, giving you plenty to poke around without needing to penetrate. You can often see the wheelhouse and parts of the deck machinery, barnacle-encrusted and draped in kelp. It’s a riot of colour on a sunny day, the light filtering through the water and illuminating the orange and purple jewel anemones that cling to every surface. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for squat lobsters and blennies peeking out. We’ve even seen small conger eels tucked away in deeper sections of the hull. It’s a proper macro playground, though larger pollack and wrasse often cruise by. We’d suggest going at slack water, as currents can pick up, but the minimal depth means you get decent bottom time to explore.
