GANNOCHY - Northumberland & Northeast

Gannochy, off the Northumberland coast, is one of those wrecks that just keeps giving. The old coaster, sunk in '58 after developing a heavy list, sits upright and largely intact in a comfortable 8 metres. We love how accessible it is, making it perfect for divers who want some solid wreck time without the deep decompression. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer volume of fish. Shoals of saithe and pollock dart through the holds and superstructure, often so dense you need to push through them. The stern, with its prop shaft still visible, is always a favourite for a poke around, and the bow, though a bit more broken up, hides some nice resident lobsters and crabs. It’s a proper exploration, not just a swim-by. We’d suggest a dive on a rising tide for the best visibility, as the current can pick up a bit, but it rarely gets too challenging. This is a brilliant, fishy wreck dive that we come back to again and again.
