GERMANIA - Northumberland & Northeast

The Germania isn't about deep diving, that's for sure. We're talking 2 metres, tops, but don't let the shallows fool you. This 31.7m sailing vessel, grounded on Taylors Bank back in 1905, offers a surprisingly engaging shore dive, especially if you catch it right. The hull is well broken up now, but you can still make out sections of the timber framework, a real testament to its past. What we love about Germania is how accessible it is, perfect for an easy afternoon bimble. We always find plenty of crabs tucked into the crevices and small shoals of fish darting around the timbers. The light penetrates right to the seabed, giving everything a clear, bright feel, which is a nice change from some of the murkier UK wrecks. Our tip: go on a calm day with good visibility, and you'll get the best out of it. It’s a great spot for newer divers getting their first taste of wreck exploration, or for experienced eyes who appreciate the small details and the history of a site.
