GLANCE (POSSIBLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

We’ve always had a soft spot for the Glance, or what we think is the Glance. It’s a wooden barge, lost way back in 1903, and despite being shallow, it gives you a real sense of history. You drop onto a scattering of timbers, dark and waterlogged, fanning out across the seabed. It’s not a massive wreck, but the individual planks and frames still hold their shape, giving you plenty to poke around. Our favourite part is seeing how the sea has reclaimed it. Anemones bloom from the wood, their tentacles swaying gently, and small crabs scuttle amongst the gaps. You’ll often find juvenile fish darting between the decaying timbers, seeking shelter. It’s a peaceful dive, perfect for photographers wanting to capture those intricate details, or anyone who enjoys the quiet contemplation of a wreck slowly returning to nature. The 11-meter depth means you get good bottom time, making it a relaxed exploration rather than a rush. Just keep an eye on the current; it can pick up a bit here.
