GOLDEN PROMISE - Northumberland & Northeast

The Golden Promise, sitting upright in 28 metres of water, is a proper North Sea wreck dive. We’re talking proper trawler vibes, sunk in ‘66. You drop down, and the superstructure is still largely intact, a real relief after some of the broken-up metal heaps out there. We love finning along the deck, peeking into the wheelhouse area if the visibility is playing ball. It feels like a proper exploration, not just a swim-over. This isn’t a coral reef, obviously. What you get here are those incredible green and purple jewel anemones covering almost every surface, along with dead man's fingers coral that pulse gently in the current. Look for the wolf fish lurking in the shadows, particularly towards the stern, and big lobsters scuttling into crevices. Our favourite spot is the prop, often surrounded by shoals of saithe. It's an atmospheric dive, cold water, a bit dark, but genuinely rewarding for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the history and the resilience of life in these northern waters. We’d suggest a good torch to really bring out the colours. Best dived on slack water, obviously, or you’ll be working for it.
