GUILLERMO - Northumberland & Northeast

The Guillermo, a large steamship that went down in 1885 after a collision, is a fantastic wreck for advanced divers in the Northeast. Lying at 43 metres, she’s deep, dark, and often has a good bit of current running over her, but that just adds to the atmosphere. We love diving this wreck when the visibility is up, maybe 10 metres if you’re lucky, because the sheer scale of her really comes into focus. You'll descend onto a huge, broken-up hull, with enormous sections of plating and machinery scattered across the seabed. Look for the massive propeller, it’s often still quite distinct, and the engine room area offers some interesting penetration opportunities if you’re qualified and experienced. We’ve seen some seriously large ling and conger eels here, tucked away in the darker nooks. The wreck feels very much like an archaeological site, cold and silent, the metal slowly being reclaimed by the North Sea. It’s a proper expedition, and always a rewarding dive for those who like their wrecks with a bit of history and a lot of challenge. Bring a good torch and a reliable buddy.
