HMS RELONZO - Northumberland & Northeast

The Relonzo isn’t about depth, it's about atmosphere and the sheer joy of a sprawling, accessible wreck. At a shallow 7m, we love it for its approachability, especially on a day when the sea is playing nice. You’re essentially diving a huge debris field, not an intact ship, and that’s part of its charm. The stern section is the most recognisable, with the prop shaft and steering quadrant still discernible, but it’s the way the rest of the ship has collapsed and scattered that really draws you in. Think metal plates peeling like rusted onion skins, beams at odd angles, and the single, upright boiler standing sentinel. It's a proper playground for macro life – we’ve spent ages here finding wrasse picking through the nooks, blennies peeking from holes, and plenty of crabs scuttling away. Visibility in the Northeast can be hit or miss, but on a good day, when the sun penetrates, the light reflecting off the sandy seabed through the wreckage is something quite special. It’s perfect for newer wreck divers or those who just want to spend a long, relaxed bottom time exploring history without the nitrogen penalty. Just pick your weather window; a little swell can make the entry a bit bouncy.
