HOPPER 35 - Northumberland & Northeast

The Hopper 35 sits upright on a sandy seabed, a real treat for divers new to wreck diving, or those just after a relaxed bimble. We love this site for its accessibility and how much detail remains on the old barge. Dropping onto her decks, you can still make out the large hopper doors, sometimes slightly ajar, creating shadowy gaps that tempt you to peer inside. It’s a shallow dive, maxing out at 10 metres, so bottom time is generous, perfect for really savouring the wreck. Over the years, the Hopper 35 has become a busy little neighbourhood for local marine life. You’ll often find wrasse darting between the rusty metalwork, while squat lobsters peek out from crevices. During a calm summer day, with good visibility, the sunlight filtering through the water onto the wreck creates a really atmospheric scene. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water, particularly on bigger tides, to fully enjoy the peace and quiet she offers. It’s a site that proves you don’t need extreme depth for an engaging wreck dive.
