Hoveringham Wreck - Northumberland & Northeast

The Hoveringham wreck holds a special place for us, a proper old girl lying off the Northumberland coast. We love her character, the way she’s broken into distinct sections that tell a story of her final moments. You’ll drop down onto the bow, usually the shallowest part, and instantly feel the sheer scale of the ship. Head towards the stern, and you’ll pass colossal boilers and engine room components, now home to some impressive resident ling and conger eels. If you’re lucky, and the visibility is playing ball, you can pick out the distinctive propeller blades, a real photo opportunity. We’d suggest diving this one on a slack tide, otherwise, you’ll be doing more of a fly-by than a proper exploration. Even on a grey North Sea day, the wreck feels alive, barnacles and anemones painting the rusty steel in unexpected colours. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and don’t mind a bit of a current.
