INDUSTRY OF TURKESAN - Northumberland & Northeast
Alright, the *Industry of Turkesan*. Don't let the 1m depth fool you – this isn't your typical dive site, but it's genuinely special for the right kind of explorer. We love it because it’s less about finning through a vibrant reef and more about connecting with history, face to face. Imagine kneeling in the shallows, the cool North Sea lapping around you, and there it is: the bones of an 18th-century collier. You're practically touching a piece of maritime heritage. You’re really just snorkelling or wading here, but the detail visible on a calm day is incredible. We’ve spent hours just drifting over the timbers, tracing the lines of what was once a working ship, thinking about the lives connected to it. It’s absolutely fascinating. The wreck itself, what remains of the hull, is now home to an array of critters you wouldn’t expect in such shallow water. Tiny crabs scuttling over the wood, small blennies darting into crevices, and anemones clinging to the darker nooks. It’s quiet, contemplative diving, perfect for photographers looking for something a bit different, or anyone who appreciates the sheer grit of maritime history. Pick a day with minimal swell and good sun, and you'll be surprised at how much you can uncover.
