J B KEE - Northumberland & Northeast

The J B Kee is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to, a proper North Sea favourite. Lying shallow at just 11 metres, it’s a perfect option when the weather’s a bit lively or you want a longer bottom time without deco. We love that it’s still very much a ship, not just a pile of plates. You can trace the deck, pick out where the bridge might have been, and even spot the propeller shaft stretching out. Visibility can swing wildly here; sometimes it's an honest 5 metres of green soup, other days you get 10-12 metres and can see the whole thing from bow to stern. Our advice? Go on a neap tide, preferably an hour or so either side of slack water, and you'll have a much more relaxed dive. The Kee is absolutely covered in life. Expect to find edible crabs scuttling over the plates, dogfish nestled in the nooks, and shoals of coalfish darting through the superstructure. It's a fantastic site for newer wreck divers looking to get their teeth into something with real character, without the added challenge of depth or raging currents. Just keep an eye on your torch beam – it’s easy to get absorbed in exploring.
