KELVINSIDE (PROBABLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

The Kelvinside, or what we strongly suspect is the Kelvinside, is a proper wreck dive off Northumberland, sitting bolt upright at 22 metres. It’s got that classic cargo steamer profile, snapped in two but still largely intact, giving you plenty to poke around. We love dropping down onto the stern, where the triple-expansion engine and single boiler are still very much there, the metalwork thick with plumose anemones that sway gently in the current. Visibility can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is up here, but on a good day, you can make out the whole ship from above before you even reach the deck. The bow section is our favourite for finding lobsters tucked into every nook and cranny, and you’ll often find wrasse darting between the plates. It’s a site that feels genuinely historical, a tangible link to a bygone era of shipping. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water; the currents here can really rip, and you want to be able to savour the detail, not fight the push. It’s a cracker for experienced divers who appreciate proper wreck exploration rather than just a quick look.
