LADY LORRAINE - Northumberland & Northeast

The Lady Lorraine, off Beadnell, is one of our absolute favourite shallow wrecks in the Northeast, and we think it’s often overlooked. Sitting upright at a flat 6 metres, she’s perfect for a long, relaxed dive, especially when the light pushes through a calm surface. You’ll find her broken up a fair bit, but the bow and stern sections are still distinct. We love poking around her engine room, where the light plays through the gaps and illuminates shoals of juvenile coalfish. Look closely, and you’ll spot crab and lobster tucked into every crevice, plus nudibranchs grazing on the metalwork. This site is fantastic for photographers or those new to wreck diving, offering plenty of time to explore without depth constraints. We always suggest trying to hit this one on a slack tide, maybe an hour after high water, for the best visibility. On a good day, the kelp that’s grown across parts of her structure sways gently, adding to the almost ghostly feel of the place. It’s a dive that just feels good, simple and satisfying.
