LADY SUMMERVILLE - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Lady Summerville* is a belter of a wreck, tucked away off the Northumberland coast. We love the way she’s mostly intact, sitting upright at 38 metres like she’s just waiting for a tow. Dropping down, you hit the bow first, then the midships, where the deck has sagged a bit but the hold is still wide open. You can swim right through, peering into the gloom, often startling a couple of big cod that have made it their home. The stern is probably our favourite, with the rudder and prop still there, looking ready to push her through the North Sea chop. It’s an advanced dive, for sure. That depth means you need to be comfortable with your gas management and probably on nitrox to get decent bottom time. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery; sometimes it’s 15 metres and glorious, other days it’s closer to five, making the wreck feel much more dramatic and eerie. We’ve seen conger eels poking their heads out of crevices, nudibranchs crawling along the plating, and always, always those schooling pollack swirling around the mast. It’s a proper expedition, a real piece of history you can touch and explore.
