LARGO (POSSIBLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

The Largo, well, *possibly* the Largo, is a grand dame of a wreck, sitting upright and mostly intact on a flat seabed. Dropping down through the gloom, you’ll start to pick out the distinct silhouette of her bows, then the long run of her deck. We love that she’s deep enough to feel like a real expedition, but without the savage currents that plague some of her neighbours. The visibility, when it’s good, lets you appreciate the sheer scale of this 1910 steamer. You can glide over her holds, imagining coal spilling out onto the seabed, and peer into the cavernous engine room, where the triple-expansion machinery still stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering. It's a dark dive, absolutely, but the light plays beautifully off the metal, highlighting the anemones and dead man’s fingers that blanket her. Our favourite feature is probably the stern, still relatively intact, offering some fantastic penetration opportunities for those with the right training and gear. This isn’t a colourful reef dive; it’s a journey into history, cold and compelling, and perfectly suited to experienced wreck divers who appreciate the ghostly beauty of a ship long lost. Just be prepared for the chill; even in summer, a drysuit is non-negotiable.
