LIVERPOOL - Northumberland & Northeast

Diving the *Liverpool* is a proper journey back in time, especially when you get one of those rare calm days in the North Sea. This iron steamer, lost back in 1863 after a bump with the *Theodor*, lies deep at 38 metres. That depth means it’s for experienced divers only, no arguments. We love how intact she still feels, even after all these years. You drop onto the main deck, and the first thing that hits you is the sheer scale. The bow points north, and you can swim the length, imagining her last voyage from London to Plymouth and Liverpool. The single boiler is a real focal point, heavily encrusted with dead man's fingers, a bright splash of orange in the gloom. Crabs scuttle from every crevice. We’ve had some cracking encounters here with large ling lurking in the shadows of the broken hull plates. The visibility can be tricky, averaging around 5 metres, but on a good day, when it stretches to ten, the whole wreck reveals itself in a dramatic, almost eerie way. It's a proper British wreck dive, challenging but incredibly rewarding.
