LORD DELAMERE - Northumberland & Northeast

The Lord Delamere, a former Thames barge, sits pretty close to shore off Seahouses, and she’s a proper character. We love a wreck with a story, and this one, scuttled in 1941, has certainly found her second life as an artificial reef. You’ll find her broken up, but still very much recognisable as a working vessel, bits of hull and superstructure still standing proud. It’s a relatively shallow dive, perfect for extended bottom times to poke around the scattered debris. We’ve spent many a dive here just watching the resident pollack and wrasse dart in and out of the metalwork. Look closely for nudibranchs, especially around the older growth on the deck plates. The visibility here can swing wildly, but on a good day, with a bit of sunlight filtering down, the way the light plays off the rust and the fronds of kelp is genuinely beautiful. It’s a site that rewards a slow, methodical exploration, rather than a speedy swim-through. Keep an eye on the tides, as currents can pick up a bit, especially closer to the heads.
