MAGNUM - Northumberland & Northeast

Magnum is one of our absolute favourite Northumberland wrecks, pure and simple. It’s got that perfect blend of history and accessibility, a former admiral’s barge from the battleship King George V, now resting upright at 21 metres. We love dropping down onto its deck, feeling the cool water, and seeing the light play on the barnacle-covered metal. The wreck itself is a compact 10.7 metres, so it’s easy to navigate, perfect for a relaxed exploration rather than a complicated penetration. You'll find the structure heavily colonised with plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the current, creating a stark contrast against the dark steel. Look closer, and you’ll spot crab eyes peering from crevices and small shoals of coalfish darting through the superstructure. Our insider tip? Dive this on a neap tide for the best visibility; it really brings out the detail on the wreck and makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable. It’s a superb wreck for photographers or anyone wanting to spend a solid chunk of bottom time just soaking in the atmosphere of a piece of naval history.
