MAIN - Northumberland & Northeast

The SS Main, sitting around 10 meters, gives you a proper slice of North Sea history. She was a steamship, sunk by a German U-boat in 1917, and while records suggest she was later refloated, there’s still plenty of scattered wreckage to explore. We’re talking about the bones of a 59-meter vessel, now a jumble of plates and ribs. It’s a site that really comes alive with schools of coalfish darting through the debris, and you’ll often spot crabs scuttling amongst the twisted metal. It’s a relaxed dive, good for anyone comfortable with shallow wreck exploration, and a cool reminder of the region’s wartime past.
