MARGARET - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Margaret* wreck is one of those sites we always come back to, especially if we’re looking for a relaxed dive that still feels like a proper exploration. Lying at just six metres, it’s remarkably intact for a wreck that went down after a collision way back in 1881. You can trace the outline of the old sailing vessel quite easily, even after all these years. What we love about the *Margaret* is the way the sea has reclaimed it. Barnacles crust every surface, and the timber planks are draped in fronds of kelp that sway with the gentle surge. It’s not about big pelagics here; it’s about the smaller, often overlooked creatures. Look closely in the nooks and crannies – we’ve often spotted velvet swimming crabs scuttling over the timbers and tiny blennies peering out from under rusty plates. The ambient light filtering through the kelp creates this beautiful, eerie green glow that just adds to the atmosphere. It’s a site that really suits anyone looking for a historical dive without the depth, perfect for a long bottom time, letting you really soak in the wreck's character.
