MFV POLARIS - Northumberland & Northeast

The MFV Polaris, sitting upright at 35 metres, is our favourite deep wreck in the northeast for a reason. She’s remarkably intact for a trawler sunk after a collision, her wheelhouse still a recognisable silhouette against the gloom. We love dropping down and seeing the deck come into view, usually with a couple of big cod eyeing us from the shelter of the collapsed mast. The Polaris just feels…alive. You’ll find wolf fish tucked into crevices, their grumpy faces peering out, and often a decent number of lobsters in the deeper parts of the hull. Exploring the stern, the propeller is still there, massive and barnacle-encrusted, a real focal point. Current can be a factor here, so we always plan our dive for slack water. This isn’t a site for beginners, but for experienced divers comfortable with depth and limited visibility, the Polaris offers a fantastic penetration dive into the past.
