MIDAS - Northumberland & Northeast

The Midas, a sailing vessel that met its end at anchor in 1881, offers a shallow dive with a surprising amount of character. Lying at just 8 metres, the wreck is well-broken, with ribs and hull plates spread across the seabed, creating plenty of nooks and crannies for exploration. We often spot conger eels tucked into the larger sections, and the metalwork is completely encrusted with plumose anemones, which really pop against the darker steel. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, perfect for those building confidence or anyone who appreciates the history beneath the waves. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, it’s a lovely mooch.
