MINSTREL - Northumberland & Northeast

The Minstrel, resting at a shallow 12 meters, is one of our favourite Northumberland wrecks for a relaxed potter. She’s a small fishing vessel, just under 10 metres, and sank back in '77 while under tow. We love that history, picturing the lifeboat trying to save her. What you'll find today is a remarkably intact little wreck. You can swim right around her, imagining the deck layout. Look inside the wheelhouse – it’s a tight squeeze but you can often spot squat lobsters tucked into the corners, their eyes glinting in your torch beam. The real draw here, for us, is the sheer number of blennies and gobies that have made the Minstrel their home. They dart in and out of every crevice, surprisingly bold. It’s a site that suits divers who appreciate the quiet charm of a smaller wreck, and a good eye for macro life, rather than grand scale. It's an easy dive, perfect for extending bottom time and just soaking in the atmosphere.
