NAZARINE - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Nazarine* isn't a deep dive, sitting at just three metres, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's not worth the effort. This isn't a site for swimming through pristine coral, it's about history and the raw power of the North Sea. We love the dramatic story behind her, a sailing vessel built in Quebec in 1854, lost with all hands in a Force 7 gale off Northumberland in 1872. You can really feel the age here. What you'll find today is a remarkably preserved wreck, considering the shallow depth and exposure. Her timbers are dark, softened by the sea, and she’s spread across the seabed, giving you plenty to explore without worrying about deco stops. Look for the large sections of hull, some still retaining their shape, and the scatter of cargo if the sand has shifted. The low light filters through the water, giving it a sombre, almost reverent feel. For marine life, expect plenty of crabs tucked into crevices, small gobies darting between the planks, and sometimes a curious seal popping in for a look. It’s a photographer's dream on a calm, sunny day, capturing the skeletal remains against the shifting sands. This is a dive for those who appreciate maritime history and don't mind a bit of a current. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water to truly appreciate the scale of the wreck.
