NELSON - Northumberland & Northeast

The Nelson is a cracking little wreck, and we love how accessible she is, practically a shore dive at just a metre deep. We're talking about a tugboat here, not some grand ocean liner, but that's precisely her charm. You'll wade in, and within seconds, you’re finning over her remains, the hull largely intact and spread across the sandy seabed. What makes the Nelson a standout for us isn't just the ease of entry, it's the sheer density of life that has moved in. Spend some time here, really get low, and you'll spot blennies poking out from every crevice, little crabs scuttling over the plates, and often, a hefty lobster or two tucked away under the deeper sections of the hull. It’s a photographer's delight, especially on a bright day when the sunlight filters down, illuminating the rusty reds and greens. Our favourite time to dive her is around slack high tide; you get the best visibility then, and it's less of a current struggle. It’s not a challenging dive, making it perfect for newer divers building confidence, or anyone wanting a relaxed pottering session with their camera.
