NOEL DU MARIN - Northumberland & Northeast

Forget your deep wrecks for a minute, because Noel du Marin offers something genuinely different, and we absolutely love it. This isn't a dive site you need to plan extensively for. At a mere 2m, it’s a brilliant shore entry snorkel or shallow dive, perfect for days when the sea is calm and you just want to get wet without the fuss. The French trawler, sunk in 1957, lies scattered across the rocks, broken up but still very much a wreck. You’ll see twisted plates of steel, ribs jutting up, and the definite outline of a vessel that met a harsh end. It’s the kind of site that makes you feel the history, imagining the crew of nine abandoning ship in poor visibility. Our favourite part is watching how the current has shaped the kelp beds around the metal, swaying like long green hair. Look closely amongst the wreckage; crabs scuttle everywhere, and we’ve often spotted small pollack darting between the rusty plates. It’s a gentle exploration, ideal for getting comfortable with your kit, or for introducing new divers to the magic of a wreck without the intimidation of depth or strong currents. Just pick a sunny, calm day, and you’ll be rewarded.
