OCEAN GAIN - Northumberland & Northeast

The Ocean Gain is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to in Northumberland, a proper piece of local history resting upright on the seabed. She was a fishing vessel, went down in '88 after taking on water too fast for the pumps, and now she's a fantastic dive at 33 metres. What makes her special is just how intact she is – you can still clearly make out the wheelhouse, the hold, even the trawl gear in places. We love dropping onto her in good visibility, usually around slack water; you get these schools of saithe circling the mast, and the deck itself is just covered in anemones and dead man’s fingers. There’s a quiet satisfaction in poking around the hold, imagining the catch she might have carried. It’s a dive that really suits those who appreciate a good story with their wreck, and don't mind the chill of the North Sea. Just be mindful of the currents here; they can pick up fast, so good planning is essential.
