OREGON 1 - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Oregon 1* is an unusual one, perfect for a surface interval or a relaxed snorkel when you’re in the area. We love how accessible it is, literally sitting in a metre of water right off the shore. You’re not getting deep here, but what you lose in depth you gain in detail and a completely different perspective on wreck diving. This motor vessel went down in 1945, and now, almost 80 years later, its skeletal remains are beautifully encrusted with an assortment of anemones and seaweeds. Sunlight filters right through, illuminating the rusty plates and allowing you to really pick out the details. We’ve spent ages just drifting over it, spotting small crabs scuttling amongst the growth and tiny blennies darting into crevices. It’s a fantastic site for photographers keen on macro shots without the hassle of buoyancy or bottom time. Our top tip? Go on a calm day with good sun; the colours really pop then. It’s a gentle introduction to wrecks for new divers, or a peaceful exploration for anyone wanting to take their time.
