OUR BRIGHTER DAWN - Northumberland & Northeast

The Our Brighter Dawn wreck is one of those sites we always recommend for a quick dip, especially when the weather is cooperating. This old fishing vessel ran aground in 1977, now sitting in such shallow water that it’s less a dive and more a snorkel or very short free-dive, depending on the tide. We love that it’s so accessible, a perfect little adventure when you've got an hour to spare. You’ll spot the skeletal remains of the hull from the surface, often a dark shadow on an overcast day. Drop down, and you’re immediately into a world of rusty metal and the creatures that have made it home. We’ve seen quite a few crabs scuttling in the nooks, and the anemones really cling to the exposed ribs of the wreck. It’s a great spot for beginners or anyone keen on wreck photography without the hassle of deeper diving. Our favourite time to go is during a calm high tide, just after sunrise; the light plays beautifully through the water, illuminating the wreck and giving the fish a soft, golden glow. Just watch your fins on the metal, it’s sharp!
