OUSEBRIDGE - Northumberland & Northeast

Ousebridge. A big wreck, but a shallow one, so expect a different kind of dive. This isn't about deep exploration; it's about navigating structure in low light, feeling your way along the hull. We love it because it’s a proper piece of history, just four metres down. You're finning over the remains of a steamship, sunk by a mine in 1940, and the sheer scale of it, even broken up, is impressive. Visibility here can be a bit challenging, often hovering around a few metres, especially on a neap tide. That just adds to the atmosphere though, turning the dive into a real treasure hunt. Look for the twisted plates of metal, the occasional glimpse of a porthole, and the way the light, even muted, plays on the kelp fronds. Conger eels are often tucked into the crevices, and the whole wreck hums with the movement of blennies and gobies. It’s a site for divers who appreciate history and don't mind getting up close and personal with the structure, ideal for those who enjoy slower, more deliberate dives.
