OUSEL - Northumberland & Northeast

The Ousel, a steamship that went down in 1957, sits in a shallow 8 metres, making it a cracking dive for newer wreck enthusiasts or those looking for an extended bottom time. We found her quite broken up, but the two large boilers are still very much intact, standing proud from the seabed. They're a magnet for local marine life – expect to see plenty of wrasse darting around and some decent-sized crabs tucked into the nooks. It’s a great site for photographers too, especially when the visibility is good and the sunlight penetrates the shallows, illuminating the encrusted metalwork. Just be mindful of the currents; they can pick up a bit here.
