PEARL DIVER - Northumberland & Northeast

The Pearl Diver is a proper little wreck, and we love diving it. It’s sitting upright at a friendly 13 metres, so you get a decent bottom time even on a single tank. What makes it special is how intact it is – that aluminium hull means she’s not corroded away like so many other wrecks in the North Sea. You can still make out the cabin structure, and the mast usually lies across the seabed, creating little nooks and crannies. Visibility can be a bit hit-and-miss here, typical for the Northeast, but when it’s good, it’s really good. We’ve had dives where you can see the entire wreck from above, and the light filtering down through the kelp-covered stern is just gorgeous. It’s usually covered in those bright orange dahlia anemones and a surprising number of crabs scuttling about. Look closely for butterfish darting in and out of the plating. It’s a superb dive for newer wreck enthusiasts, or anyone who just fancies a relaxed potter around a genuine piece of local history. We’d suggest timing your dive for slack water to really appreciate the details without fighting a current.
