PRIVET - Northumberland & Northeast

The Privet is one of those wrecks that just begs a good long poke around, especially for photographers looking for an easy, colourful shot. This small fishing vessel, just 10.7 metres long, lies perfectly upright in only 5 metres of water. We love a shallow wreck, particularly when the light is good. You’ll find her just a short swim from the shore, making it an ideal choice for a relaxed afternoon dive or even a night dive if you fancy something a bit different. What she lacks in size, she makes up for in character. Having sunk while trawling, she’s still got the feel of a working boat, just resting on the seabed. Expect to see her deck festooned with kelp and various hydroids, swaying gently in the surge. Look closely for butterfish darting between the rusty plates, and we often spot velvet swimming crabs clinging to any available nook. It’s a site that suits divers who appreciate the finer details of a small wreck and enjoy taking their time to explore rather than rushing through.
