PROVIDER - Northumberland & Northeast

The Provider, off the Northumberland coast, is one of those shallow wrecks we keep coming back to. Sunk in 1953, this old fishing vessel rests upright on a sandy seabed, completely encrusted. We love that it's so intact; you can still make out the bow, stern, and deck features, often with light filtering through the superstructure on a bright day. What makes it special is the sheer volume of life. The wreck provides so much shelter and structure on an otherwise flat seafloor. We've seen an incredible density of crabs and lobsters tucked into every crevice – poke your head into a gap, and you’ll likely spot a pair of beady eyes staring back. Conger eels are common here, too, their heads poking out from pipes and under plates. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration, peering into every shadowy corner. The Provider is an ideal spot for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed second dive, offering plenty to see without any depth concerns. We find it’s particularly good for photography when the viz plays ball, framing the wreck against the sandy bottom.
