REA 10 - Northumberland & Northeast

REA 10 is one of those wrecks that just delivers, a barge purpose-sunk, not lost in a storm, so it sits upright, almost perfectly intact at 36 metres. We love that it’s a proper penetration dive without being intimidating, with plenty of entry points into holds that are still relatively open. Drop into the main cargo area, and you're immediately enveloped in a gloom broken only by your torch beam, revealing walls completely encrusted with plumose anemones, like soft, white fur. We’ve seen some huge lobsters tucked into crevices here, and conger eels are almost a given, peeking out from behind the twisted metalwork. The intact nature of REA 10 means you get a real sense of its original form, unlike some of the more broken-up wrecks. It’s definitely a site for those comfortable with deeper diving and who appreciate the quiet, almost reverent atmosphere of a wreck slowly succumbing to the sea. Current can pick up, so we always plan for a slack water dive to truly savour the experience.
