RESIDU - Northumberland & Northeast

The *Residu* is one of our favourites off the Northumberland coast, especially if you appreciate a good, intact wreck. She went down fast in ‘92, a pretty small motor vessel, 48.5 metres long, but she landed upright and has stayed that way. This means you get a real sense of her structure, rather than just a pile of plates. Dropping down, the bridge is often the first thing that resolves out of the green, sitting high. We love exploring the holds, which are quite accessible, and you can still see where she was carrying cargo. The prop and rudder are also well worth a look, usually surrounded by a flurry of wrasse. Conger eels are often tucked into any dark space, and the whole wreck is covered in dead man’s fingers and anemones. It’s a proper dive, best for experienced divers comfortable with deeper wrecks and the North Sea’s often-chilly embrace and current. Dive it on a neap tide for the calmest conditions, and bring a good torch; it gets dark in those holds.
