STRATHAIRLIE - Northumberland & Northeast

The Strathairlie, a trawler pushed ashore in a gale back in 1941, now lies just below the surface at Shellag Bay. It’s barely a two-metre dive, really more of a snorkel or a very shallow shore dive when the conditions are flat calm. What’s left of the hull and superstructure is quite broken up, but it makes for an interesting rummage around, especially for those new to wreck diving or anyone keen to spot what’s living amongst the ribs. We’ve seen crabs tucked into every crevice and plenty of small fish darting through the rusted metalwork. It’s not a deep dive for sure, but it’s a good one for a relaxed exploration.
