SUSAHANA OR SUSANAH - Northumberland & Northeast

The Susahana, or Susanah, is a classic Northumberland wreck dive. It’s a barge that went down in 1872, right in the middle of the river, so it’s had plenty of time to settle in. We've found the remains are fairly dispersed, as the records suggest, but there are still distinct sections of hull and plating to explore. At just 11 metres, it’s a good, relaxed dive, perfect for extending bottom time and really getting to know a historical site. Look for the local cod and pollock sheltering in the nooks, and keep an eye out for crabs scuttling over the metalwork. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the slow reclamation of man-made structures by the sea.
