THORNTON - Northumberland & Northeast

Thornton isn't your deep, dramatic wreck dive; it's practically a paddle. Sunk in 1867, this steamship now lies utterly exposed at low tide, making it a unique intertidal explore rather than a dive. We’re talking a few feet of water, at most, with sections of the hull and superstructure visible. It's a fantastic spot for snorkelers or for divers looking for a very shallow, easy exploration, especially if you're into seeing how coastal wrecks become part of the landscape. You'll find plenty of small crabs scuttling amongst the riveted plates and seaweed.
