TIBERIA - Northumberland & Northeast

The Tiberia is one of those wrecks that really sticks with you, a deep dive with a serious sense of history. She’s a big steamship, sunk in 1918 by a U-boat, and sits upright in a way that just feels monumental. Dropping down, you start to pick out the superstructure, then the bow, and finally the sheer scale of her. We love how intact she is for a wreck of her age and depth. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as you’d expect off the Northumberland coast, but on a good day, it’s magical watching the light filter down onto the decks. We’d suggest a strong torch; the swim-throughs, particularly around the engine room, are dark and moody, revealing ghostly machinery and plenty of resident cod. You’ll find ling curled up in the deeper recesses, and the whole wreck is carpeted in plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying with the gentle surge. This is definitely one for the experienced wreck diver, comfortable with deco and deep water. It’s a proper expedition, a tangible link to the past, and well worth the effort.
