TOWER BASE - Northumberland & Northeast

Tower Base is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to, a true favourite in the Northumberland lineup. She’s a dangerous wreck, officially, but that just means she’s been down a while and has plenty of story to tell. Dropping onto her deck at 24 metres, you feel the chill of the North Sea but quickly forget it as the wreck emerges from the murk. We love the way she’s opened up over time, giving you plenty of nooks to poke a torch into. Expect to find plenty of crabs scuttling across plates, and often a conger eel peeking from a pipe. The structure itself is fantastic for photography, all those twisted metal beams and the way the light filters through. Our best dives here are always on a slack tide, when the visibility pushes past the usual five metres, letting you appreciate the scale of the collapse. It’s a site that rewards multiple visits, each time revealing another detail previously missed. Definitely one for wreck lovers who don’t mind a bit of a rumble in the North Sea.
