TUMI JOY 2 - Northumberland & Northeast

The Tumi Joy 2 sits upright, a rare find for a smaller wreck off Northumberland, and that’s why we love it. At 33 metres, it’s a site for those comfortable with deeper dives and a bit of chill. This isn't a massive cargo ship, more like a decent-sized pleasure craft, but its intact nature makes it endlessly interesting. You drop onto the deck, usually met by a curious pollock or two darting from the wheelhouse. We've spent many a dive poking around the superstructure, finding conger eels tucked into shadowy corners and nudibranchs grazing on the encrusting life that’s colonised every surface. The visibility can be hit or miss, typical of the North Sea, but even on a greener day, the wreck’s compact size means you never feel lost. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the prop is still visible, often surrounded by schools of juvenile coalfish. It’s a proper dive for those who appreciate the history and the resilience of life in colder waters.
