U 1024 - Northumberland & Northeast

The U-1024 is a proper U-boat dive, resting at 50 metres, and it's one of our favourite deep wrecks in the Northeast. Dropping onto the conning tower, you really get a sense of its scale. It’s been down since April 1945, and the sea has done its work, but the stern section is still largely intact, allowing for some great exploration. We love poking around the torpedo tubes and imagining the capture. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as it often is off this coast, but on a good day, the atmosphere is incredible – dark, silty, and full of history. Look out for the resident conger eels, they’ve made a cosy home in the engine room, and the odd wolf fish isn't unheard of. This is definitely a dive for experienced technical divers, comfortable with the depth and the chill of the North Sea. Come prepared for a decent current, especially on the run-in to slack.
