UBIER (PROBABLY) - Northumberland & Northeast

Ubier (Probably) isn’t going to win any beauty contests, but we love it for its sheer accessibility and the way it’s settled into the seabed. Sunk in 2004 after an engine fire, this 12-meter steel hull offers a genuinely relaxed wreck dive, something relatively uncommon in the often-demanding North Sea. When you drop down, you’ll find the wreck largely intact, though starting to break up in places. We’ve always appreciated the way the light filters through the structure, especially on a brighter day. We often spot shoals of coalfish darting through the skeletal remains, and the resident crabs and lobsters have made themselves right at home amongst the plates. It’s a site that rewards a slow pace, letting your eyes adjust to the subtle colours. We'd suggest checking the tide for slack water; it makes navigating the interior a much calmer experience. It’s a perfect spot for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a chilled-out exploration without the drama of deeper, more exposed sites.
