VALHALLA - Northumberland & Northeast

We reckon the Valhalla is one of the more underrated wrecks off the Northumberland coast. It's a fishing vessel, went down in 1990 while being towed, and now sits upright at 31 metres. What we love about it is how intact it still feels. You can swim down the length of it, imagine the deck plans. The stern is our favourite part, with the propeller still there, usually swathed in dead man's fingers. She's not a huge wreck at 20 metres long, but that just means you can take your time. Visibility here can be tricky, often just a few metres, so we always suggest a good torch. Even on a dim day, the sheer density of plumose anemones, especially on the bow, is impressive. Look for huge conger eels poking out from the collapsed sections of the wheelhouse. It’s a proper expedition dive, a deep, dark exploration into the North Sea’s past. If you’re into atmospheric wrecks where you can really feel the story, this is your kind of dive.
