VALKYRIE - Northumberland & Northeast

Northumberland’s wrecks often feel like a well-kept secret, and the Valkyrie is one of our favourites for a relaxed potter around. We’re talking about a fishing vessel, settling on the seabed back in ‘68 after a tow line snapped. She’s shallow, sitting at just 10 metres, so you get plenty of bottom time, even on a chilly North Sea day. What we love about the Valkyrie is how approachable she is. There's no major penetration here, but you can weave through the broken sections of the deck, seeing how the ocean has slowly reclaimed her. Expect to find her hull draped in sea anemones, waving gently with the surge. Crabs often scuttle away into dark corners as you pass, and we’ve spotted some decent-sized lobsters tucked beneath the plates. It’s a great site for newer divers looking to get a feel for wreck diving without any major currents or depth challenges, or for experienced divers who just want an easy dive with interesting history. We always find ourselves lingering around the stern, imagining the last moments before she went down.
